Expert salt sprinkler Nusret Gökçe is moving ahead with his Midtown spot
Has Salt Bae found a designer for his restaurant? At the very least, he’s met with Glen Coben of Glen and Company Architecture about his restaurant opening in the CBS building (60 W. 53rd Street) in what had been China Grill.
When Turkish chef and internet sensation Nusret Gökçe, was seen around town ostensibly securing details for the opening of Nusr-Et, he apparently met with the architect behind some of the city’s most high-powered, vast restaurants. Coben has worked on restaurants like Alex Stupak’s ambitious Empellon Midtown, as well as Carbone, Del Posto, Old Homestead, and Batard.
Salt Bae’s fame, of course started with his mesmerizing videos, inspiring fans across the world to imitate his signature move and create tributes to him. Gökçe opened his first restaurant in 2010. Today, he has five steakhouses — primarily in Turkey, one in Dubai— and two burger restaurants. Stay tuned for updates on his NYC space.
