Ovenly’s NYC Domination Has Begun

Ovenly has found a new home in Williamsburg, opening the fourth bakeshop on North 5th Street on track to open in the fall. Eater reported that founders Erin Patinkin and Agatha Kulaga are on a two-year fast-track expansion plan, starting with a brand new test kitchen in Greenpoint, a new location in Park Slope, and eventually more than a dozen locations in New York alone.

Beach Eats in the City Limits

For those craving Mission-style burritos, a couple of guys who’ve been popping up at Rippers will be hawking them at the Rockaway boardwalk. Eugene Cleghorn and Sam Neely are rolling out Super Burrito on Friday at Beach 97th Street, serving steamed flour tortillas with Monterey jack cheese, Spanish rice, pinto beans, sour cream, sliced avocado, pico de gallo, and salsa verde, Cleghorn told Bedford + Bowery.

New Sandwiches on Orchard Street

The third tenant in five years at 27 Orchard Street, Regina’s is poised to soft-open in the next few days, Bowery Boogie reports. The new sandwich shop that’s also selling imported goods is apparently named after the proprietor’s grandmother and “ incorporates the ghost signage into its business, replacing the “SHIRTS” lettering with its own in similar font style.”

Bushwick’s Revolving Doors

Greenpoint pop-up Mad Tropical has soft-opened in the former Tandem space at 236 Troutman. Look for “islandy vibes” and Mexican fare like cauliflower tacos and Mexican pizza says Bushwick Daily. Meanwhile, Central Station at 84 Central Avenue will shutter this weekend for the short- or long-term, Bushwick Daily reports. “There’s definitely going to be a transition at the end of this week,” the management said. “I don’t know whether it’ll [be] closed for a day, or a week, or a month. It’s definitely going to be a change but it’s up in the air as to how that will happen. It’s all in the works.”

This Weekend’s Uptown Food Festivals

This weekend marks the tenth anniversary for Taste of the Upper West Side, a double header Friday and Saturday night. Adam Richman and Alex Guarnaschelli will host and and Frank Bruni will be a special guest at Friday’s “Summer in the City: Surf and Turf” event, while April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman will be the honorees and Jesse Palmer will host Saturday night’s “Best of the West.” Both events take place under a grand tent at the schoolyard on 77th Street and Columbus Avenue. Look for dishes like Tasmanian sea trout with sushi rice from Jean-Georges Vongerichten, l’oeiller de la belle aurore (a savory pie celebrated in Lyon) with mesclun greens from Daniel Boulud, and a short rib lettuce wrap with spicy pickles from April Bloomfield, and more. Tickets start at $105 for the Friday night event and $135 for Saturday’s Best of the West — Beth Landman
